whats up fellas! noob here.
just picked up a 95 scrambler 400 4x4. quick question sicne i bought it in the dark and the engine is pretty hidden beneath plastic. does the engine sump have oil in it? didnt see a fill hole anywhere (stop laughing! i havent owned a 2 stroke since 1988 and forgot)
can you use any 2 stroke oil in the reservoir?
why do people mention blocking it off and using premix? is this setup prone to failure?
my bike doesnt smoke at all at start up? shouldnt it smoke a little bit? getting enough oil?
bike starts on first pull. havent checked compression but is this indicitive of a tight motor?
thanks for any help, its mucho appreciated! very excited about this older machine. ive come from a brute force and a v force a few years ago and its fun getting back into atv's

I'll say it may be easier to keep up with your oil if it is premixed.

I had a 1989 trail boss 250 2wd. Never had an issue with the oil pump so I never premixed. You should use just about any oil as long as it's got tc3 in it(even though they didn't have it back then). It's really recommended by all 2stroke manufacturers now.
