Head and cylinder interchange

What other atv's can I use the head and cylinder for my 97 scrambler500 ho 4x4. I pulled mine apart and its a mess. I went to the pure polaris site but their interchange guide makes no sense. Says I can only use a cylinder for the sportsman or scrambler from 97-98 but says the head can only use from 2009-2012 sportsman,scrambler,ranger. WTF
