Scrambler isn't very snappy?
I just bought a 01 Polaris Scrambler 500 4x4 after owning and selling another 02 Polaris Scrambler 500 2x4. The 02 scrambler was so much snappier and faster then the one I have now. The guy who I bought the 01 scrambler from said he installed a new belt and adjusted the clutch somehow and now it doesn't have as much power. It was installed a couple month's before he put it up for two years. He said that before it would pull wheelies on command. It's not even close to that! I was thinking that it could be something with the shims? WHat could he have done to make it have less power? And what can I do to get that back? Thanks!

tune up maybe? try cleaning the carb, new filter plug wire. That may help. I dont really see a reason why it shouldnt run the same other than a tune up. Is the gas fresh?

The quad runs great, starts on the first or second pull and idles fine. It accelerates without a hitch and it's really consistent. It's getting the power to the wheels which is the problem. It feels less snappy until it warms up of about 10 minutes of hard riding. Then it runs great and takes off really quick.

I'm guessing he swapped out the clutch weights or spring.
You can kill your take off & response if you don't use the correct setup. best bet is to order a full clutch kit, or figure out which springs / weights your running now and change the setup. Trickier than it sounds, so many color coded springs vs different manufacturers. etc......
Other clutch parts to investigate, Secondary Clutch ramp & buttons
Or it could be something as easy as cleaning your clutch surfaces, or the belt is bad.
I would remove the clutch cover and take a look at it.
Maybe post some pics and post them on here, that can help sometimes

It looks like the secondary is weak, the belt pulls into it too easily. If you can contact the previous owner, find if he disassembled the secondary clutch for the adjustment. If so, it is possible he preloaded it the wrong direction. By dropping to the secondary that easy makes it like launching in second or third gear on a stick shift. Buddy

I will ask him tomorrow. How can I adjust this so it will not drop so fast? I have a manual coming soon but I am not sure if that will cover secondary clutch adjustments.
