Question gas mileage for trip ?

I have a 2005 Scrambler 500 4x4 and this summer I will be taking a back country trip with other riders. One ride will be about 50 miles round trip. I was wondering if I will have enough gas in the tank to make this ride, or should I haul a gas can ?

depends on how you ride but i just got back from ride with 08 sportsman 500 efi and i got 104 miles on tank riding somewhat hard.not much left in tank though.i would think you should get close to 20 mpg with 500.i believe they have 4 gallon tanks.i think i have put 50 miles on my 400 scrambler no problem.

I would think you could do 50 miles easy. My 500 gets 20 to 25 mpg depending on how much I use low range and 4WD. You could always pack an extra gallon or 2 for peace of mind.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I won't have to give my trip any extra thought as far as gas goes

Depending on how you ride... Blasting through trails, I've gotten as little as 10 mpg on my 05 but that's riding hard with constant throttle changes, heavy braking, powering through turns, etc.

The group will be riding up to an old mining camp, and I doubt anyone will be in a hurry on the old dirt road. Might spill the beer
