Six months ago I purchased the 570 SP Hunter Edition. I've put around 350 miles on it since, all on dirt. Not a ton of miles, but I've been able to get it out nearly every weekend since bringing it home.
I have not encountered one single issue with this ATV. I absolutely love it. I'm not sure if it's just the power steering, the double A-arm suspension, the radial tires... but it handles extremely well for what I ask it to do. The motor is a really good down low and in the mid-range. I've never tried to get it to a top speed, and probably never will. The features are perfect, and all Sportsman owners know what I am talking about... great storage, great seat comfort, etc. I've said before that the new digital gauges are great, and still feel that way... love it.
I see some posters complain about the engine braking on the 570s, or other models in general. It is stout. Fortunately, this is the second Sportsman I've had with this feature, so I was able to get the perfect throttle feathering quickly. Rarely do I need to use brakes. If you're considering going away from this ATV because of engine braking, I would suggest reconsidering. You can't get the feathering down pat on a dealer test ride. But following the first good ride or two, you will have it licked. It becomes an absolute non-issue. In my view, way more upside in having it than not for my type of riding. I'd like to hear from those that ride in the mountains a lot. Maybe they have a different view.
Anyway, just sharing my thoughts so far. I hope this provides some perspective for someone that is searching for opinions before making a purchase decision.
I love my EBS. You're right, feathering the throttle is the key. I'm on flat land here but I have rode at Wolfpen gap in Arkansas and had no issues. I would like to have individual hand brakes for the front and rear! I can see how a loose steep downhill decent could be an issue with the EBS and combined brakes. About the only time I use the brake is when I'm putting it in the shed or on the trailer, when I said it's flat here, I mean really flat.
OK so I have had mine since June 28th, I have put about 400 miles on it, lots of trail riding and some chores over the summer around the property. Recently had an opportunity to check out the accessories on this bad boy fully and I have some cheers and jeers to report out.
Cheers:
This is a good looking machine, the cut and sewn leather seat, camo, racks.. it looks good!
This is a heck of a ride. Smooth, plenty of power, everything is right in the world when we're together!
The grip and thumb warmers are sweet to have in the colder weather. I like them a lot
The work light comes in handy and works well whether it is just backing the machine up in the dark or actually using it for a work light.
The tires are a lot better than the 2015 SP that I traded in, great improvement on those.
Some Jeers:
The battery would not start the machine in September. Had to buy a new (sealed) battery as I was actually trying to load the machine for vacation so I couldn't wait for the dealer. When the original battery was load tested, it was fine. The tech told me that if the engine stops at a certain way, maybe it was top dead center, the battery does not have enough to turn it over and you'll have to bump the key a couple times to get it past the compression stroke. Said it "is a 570 thing." That does not make me a very happy owner of one of those "570 things!"
The gun boot and mounting bracket with the quick lock thingy looks great, and if you rode on pavement only would function well. But the thing keeps coming loose going over the rough terrain. The leverage and weight of the gun in the boot is just too much for that quick connection, it wiggles it out as the machine travels over uneven ground.
The winch is almost entirely in the way of changing the front diff fluid. Thankfully that is not changed very often, but it is definitely going to add time and energy to something that does not need it.
My fingers are crossed for the next month as I close in on the last month of standard warranty. I always offer up a little prayer to the Polaris gods these days as I jump on it: "If something is going to go, please be quick about it so I can get it in under warranty." However if things keep on like they have been, there will be few worries in my future with this machine.
Thanks for the feedback on this model. I am going to buy a new ATV in the next 90 days and I am really waffling back and forth on the Hunter Edition vs a regular EPS model where I buy new rims/tires/winch myself. I am really torn on this!!!!!
There are a couple "Hunter Edition Only" things that I want to know about.
1. The heated thumb and grips.... worth it or just nice to have cause you have it? Is this a reason to spend more?
2. Front and rear rack extenders. Do you like them? They can be added later if I wanted to save a few bucks on initial purchase.
3. Tires? I have read (too many) threads about the 14" not being good and the PXT aren't great. Worth it? Or am I better buying my own 12" rim/Tire upgrade over the 489s on std EPS Model.
4. Suspension upgrades that much better? I am a big guy at 6'1" and 260lbs....
Will I regret NOT buying a Hunter Package?
(I will use it for deer hunting 2 trips a year)
The sum of the OEM accessories would be more than the price of the Hunter Edition, if you purchased them all separately - I believe. With that said, you might not want all the extras either. I knew I wanted the bumpers, winch, racks, and the SP model, and I liked the thought of the hand warmers so my choice was to just bite the bullet now and get it all set up, and no wrenching needed down the line.
Heated grips and thumb - never thought I would care about them, and those were nowhere near the top of my list. But having used them during hunting season in the cold weather I am glad I got them. I can see them being really handy in the Spring when we take some of the early rides on the SNIRT and the tug hill.
Front and rear racks - I freaking love em. Handy like an extra pocket, I would say.
Tires. I had heard the same about the 14's and weak sidewalls, but I believe this PXT is intended to deal with those complaints. 6 ply radials and they grip like my girlfriend! So far I like them, but I dont have a lot of experience to tell you different.
Suspension - I rode a buddy's 450HO for a day this fall, and a world of difference. I'm 6 and 225 and I've yet to stiffen the suspension. But I might, just to see what it rides like..
Front and rear brushguard bumpers have been put to much use already blazing thru the woods, saved my front box once already (oops)
Being a cheap bastard, I sometimes think I overspent for my own vanity - but that's only when I am not riding it. LOL.
Thanks to both you and the OP for the feedback. The Hunter edition fits a niche market. I think you are right in that the whole is less expensive than the sum of the parts.
Dad has a 2012 550 XP Browning LE, and loves it. If I don't get the hunters 570, He will still have the nicer ride, so I gotta go Hunters Package I think!!
I bought a new 2015 570 in green w/o power steering. I thought I dont need heated grips. First cold day I rode without them I found myself stopping every 15-20 minutes to stick my hands in the exhaust to warm up. Not only do I use them in cold weather, I use them whenever my arthritis kicks in. The heat really helps. I did get the front rack extender almost right away as keeping anything on the front is difficult at best. Bought front bush basher next because I could see something happening there too. Then bought the rear rack extender and storage box for the storage and comfort of a good back rest. Hind sight being 20/20 should have bought all that right away. As for power steering, havent tried it so no opinion on that. Next upgrade will be Kenda bear claws and fender flares. Also a little off topic here, but how do you post pictures on this forum?
My 570 has that quirk where it won't turn over - even with a new battery and it sits on the tender, it still gets "stuck" from time to time. The new battery does help because I can bump it and get it to start. With the old battery, I had an occasion where it wouldn't start, especially after sitting off the battery tender for a few hours.
I'll agree with the others on hand warmers. It was my Christmas gift to myself last year. It makes rides in January doable and even November with no gloves, turn on the warmers and after a little while I have to turn them off because they are getting too hot even on low.
Appletonrc, sorry to hear that - it happened to me only once so far, perhaps just good luck! I do hope this is not something we need to deal with very often.
303British (not a very common round these days!) to upload pics I believe you can just drag and drop to the area below where you type your responses. There are other methods, like creating an album or something like that, but I am not very proficient with the advanced features. I honestly don't recall off the top of my head how I did my profile pic!

Darn it all, happened to me this weekend while I was riding. I mean, while I was travelling. No idea why the machine shut off while I was playing in the snow, but I was honking along, bouncing over drifts, etc and it just died. No display, nothing. I actually can imagine that somehow my key got bumped to the off position, given the travel and fishtailing, etc.. But when I tried to start it up it just crapped out, tried to turn over, display goes dark.... bumped it a half dozen times, a minute or thirty seconds in between each try until it turned over. Fired up a little slowly, and I feared it would die if I let off the throttle much (whether that would have happened I will never know) and I got out of the woods as fast as I carefully could.
I would have a half mile tow or push through snowy woods and fields to get to a road, and there was nobody around to give me a tow, so I would have been totally hosed if that bad boy had not fired up.
This really sucks to not have confidence in your new $10K ATV.
I just picked up a 2017 570 sp for the wife, non EPS and I like the steering a lot more than my 2013 850 xp with power steering!!! The steering on my 850 is too easy, I like to feel some feedback and the 570 is just right! We bought the hand and thumb warmer for it and I was going to install it but the dealer said they would install it for only 40 bucks.
Agreed - I am pretty sure the EBS is part of the SP package. It has been on all the ones I looked at over the past couple years, owned a 2015 570SP and now a 2017 570SP..
