Radiator Side Covers!

First, a shout out to Scott and his Family from Charlotte, NC, whom I met this past weekend at Carolina Adventure World. Scott was enjoying his new 570's, Red and Orange.

Question: When did they delete the Radiator Side Covers? I think that's an important feature to have. I wonder if you can buy them for the 2014 models and install them on the newer bikes?

Maybe that was an idea to cut down on the heat out the right side, warming up your leg?

Given a choice, I'd rather protect the Radiator from sticks and etc.

Your thoughts? :beerchug:

Found another guy on here that found some black flexible cutting boards (Walmart or target) to make side shields. I don't have the post handy but supposedly cuts down on how much the tires throw in front of the rad. I know I'll be doing the same on my bike.

It looks like they did away with them in 2016. My wife and I both have the full shroud on our 2015 Tourings, but 2016 models don't have them. I also think they are a good thing to have. They work just like the shroud on your vehicle to pull more air through the radiator, as well as provide more protection.

I would definitely be interested in coming up with some extra protection for this. I noticed how open it was when i picked up my bike. Any good ideas?

#5 ·
Could you order them for the 2014, and install them on the later models?

I noticed that when I picked up my second 570. I did a walk around with my 2014 setting there and there are a few things they changed. The clutch air intake is different and the front of the frame is different also. I work at a Polaris dealership in parts and am going to see if the shrouds can be put on the 2016.

Let us know how that works out, when you check on parts. That would be a good thing to add to a new machine to protect it.

Radiator side panels

Can one of you post a pic of these side panels? I have a 2016 and not sure what you're referring to. Just got out this weekend and radiator got caked quick, plus it seems very open and vulnerable.
Juelmen - if the old parts don't work can you send pic of your cutting board fix?
Thanks.

Not the best shot, but all that I have right now. Radiator is completely out of sight.

Bob, you've got some exceptional pictures in your collection there. How scary is it pulling the 5th wheel with the ATV trailer behind? Wow! Is that legal everywhere?

Is there a part # for the touring model covers? Maybe some modification and they would fit a regular '16 570. Maybe.

Might have look into this to! I getting a new 570 sp

I looked at the frame on the 2016 and it looks like all the holes are there. I ordered the shields and as soon as I get them I will let you know the part numbers. I sure hope this works out.

Well I put on the deflectors tonite. Just like I hoped they fit perfect. Don't know why they aren't on from the factory but they line up just like the 2014,plus they aren't that expensive either. The shop wired up my winch and I had to reroute the power cables to the winch a little, nothing a couple of wire ties couldn't fix.Hope this helps.

Side covers

fsadvar - thanks for posting info and pics. Looks like a good option for protection. The only down side I see is having access to radiator on the trail to clear mud from the fins. Last week I caked up so bad I overheated and had to splash water onto front to scrape it off. Seems like an easy removal if it needed to be done. Thanks.

#25 ·
If you had them, would you have to clean the Rad. Tires are the cause most
of the time. Unless your seat deep and its coming thu the grill.

radiator covers

That's what I'm hoping. Not going that deep...I think last week was all tire spray digging out of mud. Just ordered a set from partzilla as well. If they get here in time I'll test them this weekend - one with and one without and see which one has more mud.

I'm glad they fit, and everyone should order and install them. I know they have protected my radiator from mud and sticks.

Aside from cost, which I hope is not the reason Polaris dropped them, maybe they felt that deleting them might deflect some of the fan air away from the engine, and reducing Rider heat problems.

I'll take the heat as I do, to save my Radiator any day!

Thanks for the followup fsadvar !

July 24? Mine says June 24, so I should have them next week. If that's the case I can live with that. Heading out this weekend so I'll have to take something to clean the radiator so I don't overheat like last time.

I sure hope this helps. It sure makes it a lot more closed off and makes me feel a little better. I haven't taken it out for a run but its worth the protection to me. I was telling by buds that the internet was great, let the other guy spend their money and time to see if it works. I guess I was the other guy this time.:)
You all ride safe out there!

Other guy

I guess everybody gets to be the other guy at some point. I appreciate you doing it this time! I'll take the protection over the damage! Thanks.

What are the part numbers ? With they work an a SP? Thanks

#37 ·
Sorry bout the late response. I ordered the factory bolts. I will have to get the numbers. It also needs the push type pins. 3 on each panel. I just bought some generic ones. If you need the numbers for the screws I can get them for you. They are a self tapper style with a torques (sp) head.

#38 ·
I was assuming this came with hardware...thanks for the notice. Please send the numbers for the screws - mine should ship tmw so I'll get them ordered.
Thanks!

Got my covers yesterday, just waiting on the plastic push pin rivets, then go to HD to pick up a couple of bolts.
