It was "normal". Ya right. The customer service department does have a lot to be desired. Seems like they just want to get he warranty period behind them and move on. Do they ever do recalls because it sounds like this 850 needs at least one. OK, its made in mexico but this is supposed to be an American company. Shame shame i say, shame. Stand behind your products instead of trying to put problems behind you unsolved. I am not a big advocate of lawyers but it seems one here might get a little more respect for owners.
I think that is why Yamaha moved production Newnan, Georgia. May be Japanese owned, but USA built. Hope Polaris pays attention to that. A High quality product can be built in the USA. Forget building them cheaper with cheaper parts ad cheaper labour to maximize profits.

I dropped my 850 sportsman off at the dealer today. Oil in the air box and back firing..... The owner of the dealership told me that he wasn't aware of the problems that we are having with brand new machines. 10,000 WOW THIS SUCKS!!!! Brute force 750 five years with no problems????? I hope they can fix it. I WANT TO RIDE!!!!!!!

I'm glad I bought the 3 year warrenty. I don't expect any machine to be perfect but I think Polaris needs to up there quality control. Stop trying to cut corners and just make an American machine that we all can be proud of. Need to kick carslile tire to the curb(crap) put some big horns on stock. Skid plates???? (ricochet).
Anyway does anyone know of any recalls on this bike?
You might want to check the lower steering assembly that connects to the lower part of the power steering unit. These parts are splined and will wear out causing severe play and possible complete loss of steering. I have a 2010 550xp eps & 2010 850 xp eps and both have problems. The 550 is on its 3rd power steering unit. The first one was replaced under warranty , the 2nd my expense. If you wan't to have some fix on the issue, remove the lower part and drill holes and tap in set screws, this will tighten up the steering by sqeezing the splines together. Do this youself if you can. Talking to the Polaris department is a joke, the girl I talked to on the phone said she can't do anything about the problem because she didn't manufacture the quad.WHAT!!!! I guess this is how Polaris trains their personal on dealing with matters that could cause them some coin. Beware all riders--- check your steering and make your complaints heard, they have a problem and we all need to make them send out a recall on this poorly designed power steering and get our money back.
