I have a 2000 Sportsman 500 4x4. The 4x4 does'nt work. Neither does the speedometer. Someone told me these are linked together. Can I bypass the 4x4. The speedometer is 300.00. I don't want to change this if it won't fix the 4x4. Are there any replacement speedometers that are less expensive Thanks,Pete
The speedometer has to work for the 4x4 to work, it can probably be bypassed but im not sure how its done. pm blueline, he works at a polaris dealer and he can probably help you with the speedometer or tell you what to check.
it had the NO LIGHTS, NO SPEED, NO HOURS, and NO MILEAGE issue.
The speedometer head comes apart by gently bending the metal brezel up, then the needle pulls straight up (note where you have it positioned)
there are 3 screws under the numbers, you need to peel the plastic label up carefully.
from there the back has 2 large black electrolitic capacitors and a 3 legged SRC transistor next to them. That transistor part needs replaced.
It is a Motorola TIP 48 voltage regulator.
Mine looked fine visuially and after much convincing I pulled it and replaced it and saved my self$ 250.00
need more help--email me at Apark3@woh.rr.com
I have a bunch of these transistors, had to buy 50.
I tried emailing you for the part, didnt go thru. Might be my end. Anyways I would like a couple of these transistors. Some pictures would be a bonus too.
sooo, this would be the way to clean my lens so I could actually SEE the readout huh? Good deal.
