2009 Touring 800 using oil

I have a 2009 Touring 800 with 600 km on it, and on the last 2 rides it seems to be burning oil. The bike doesn't have a oil leak there's never any sign of oil on the garage floor. You can smell the oil burning from the exhaust. I don't think i'm going to fix it myself but thought it might be nice to know what the problem could be before i take it to the dealer.

Does anybody have any thoughts on hoe the engine would be burning the oil. In about 50km run I would use about 1/2 litre.

There's only two options that I can think of, your piston rings are shot or your valve seals are done.

My idea is a long shot, but take the cover off the airbox and start the engine to see how much blowby is coming in through the crankcase vent. Some models use a filter to keep oil from venting and these filters can get plugged, thereby increasing crankcase pressure which will increase oil consumption.
