Question 2005 500HO electrical problem

I've got an 05 with some kind of electrical problem. I was using it to pull some brush, turned the machine off and went to restart it and it was completely dead, like there wasn't even a battery on it. I replaced the battery and still nothing. A short while later, I turned the key and it worked like it should. I turned it back off and now nothing. I have power to the solenoid but nothing else. Can someone help? I had the ECM replaced under a recall a few years ago.

Welcome!

Does the display on the pod light up?

If it does, try tapping on the solenoid. If the bike starts when doing this, then you have a bad solenoid or just corroded connections on the solenoid.

no, nothing lights up. it's like there isn't a battery. I have power to my solenoid from the battery. I bridged it with a screw driver to see if it would throw it to my starter and it did. there is no power coming to the front so i'm thinking start small and simple with ignition switch, cluster on left side of handle bars, or solenoid.

Are the PDM and ECM different?

I pulled off the front plastic and found a finned aluminum box, which I assume is the ECM. I pulled the plug off of it, and tried to check the voltage at each pin (or hole) in the plug (not the EMC itself). I couldn't find 12V anywhere. However, on a couple of the pins, my multimeter registered .03-.04V. Connected to nothing, the meter read 0.00, and only moved to .03-04 when I touched the plug.

There is also a black plastic box mounted just about the aluminum finned box. Is that the PDM?

(and I did test every connection on both kill switch plugs, with no voltage present either)

67galax, is your 05 a carb or efi?
