Hey
just wanted to ask when I go to polaris website I put in year and model and click on the fluids needed for my 2006 sportsman efi.
the oil that they are giving me to choose is the synthetic 5w50
the manual says 0w40.
I've already done the oil change when I bought it few weeks ago with 0w40 but should I now use 5w50?
what you think? and why different then manual.
thanks
Glenn

yep, that's just the latest "new" oil from Polaris. The oil you have now is what they have used for years. Now they have a new oil. They do that ever few years. If you want you can switch to the new stuff next change...Or...as said above, just go to Wally World and get the same stuff cheaper in a different bottle.

It doesn't usually get all that cold down here in KY but I have no doubt that your statement is spot on, reynoldston. In all fairness, I have been considering going to a little heavier oil like Polaris is now recommending in the summer and then back to the 0w-40 in the winter months.

I have been using Mobil 1 0W40 and the bike is 13 years old with 7500 miles of hard off road riding and plowing snow in the winter. The only engine problems I ever had with it is oil leakage. I did try the heaver oil one season but had starting problems when the temp. got real cold. The first oil change I used Polaris oil and then a few years I ran synthetic Amsoil and now Mobil 1. I change my oil and filter once a year.
