4X4 problem

I have a 2003 Polaris sportsman 400 and the 4X4 does not work. I have noticed that the 4X4 light never comes on even when you just turn the key to the on position, could this be an electrical problem?

Have you checked to see if you are getting power to your switch? Does your indicator light come on to show that you are in, high, low, and/or reverse? The reason I ask is because I was having the same problem but only when in high gear. My indicator light was not coming on in high gear either. This was due to a bad switch on the transmission. Im going to call it the gear selector switch but I'm sure someone else on hear will know the proper name for it. It is the switch on the transmisson that has wires coming from the shifter to the switch. If the switch is bad then your atv doesn't know that its in gear and the 4X4 will not activate. There is a way to bypass the switch if this is the problem.

does your speedo work if not the 4x4 wont work

I am a noob its my first atv. everything on the spedo works tells me the correct gear im in. i checked most of the wiring for loose connections or broken wires found none. not realy sure how to check to see if im getting power to the switch.
