500HO - Headlight replacement help needed

2011 Sportsman 500 H.O. model... One of my headlamp bulbs is out. Sounds like a simple replacement, but I am stuck and could use some help.

Do I have to replace the entire harness/bulb? (expensive!) Or can I just replace the bulb itself?

The bulb looks like a standard halogen and I guess I could find the same bulb. However, I cannot figure out how to get the build out of the harness. It is stuck in there pretty tight. Is there a trick to removing the bulb?

The owner's manual simply says to "remove the headlamp and install the new headlamp." Doesn't say how or even what to replace it with. The specs only show it is a "single beam 50w" bulb.

The harness is marked "GE 886" - is the harness and bulb a one piece unit? This would mean that a bulb replacement is roughly a $45 cost. Seems there must be a less expensive way.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks for the welcome, Bruce. I am new to ATVs and have been lurking here for a few weeks. This place is a great resource.

Welcome!

Is the lamp you need to change in the pod or one of the lower lamps?

It is one of the lower lamps. I removed the unit from the headlight container (simple twist). I also removed the "harness" from the wire (clip). I have a black, right angled, piece of plastic with two prongs one one end. The other end has a bulb with two contacts that seat into the black plastic. The bulb will not pul out of the plastic "harness." I am starting to think they are one piece and have to be replaced together.

Look at Hit-the gas.com

Their a sponser here and show you can get the bulb separate.

I did get bulbs for my bike at auto parts store. They should be fog light bulbs.

Thanks for the help. Seems and "886" bulb is the bulb and plastic assembly all in one. I am not sure what some online retailers are charging $45 for, but my local auto parts store has the item for $8. I am glad the solution was that simple.

You found one? Dang it. I was gonna sell you one for $20 , and even pay shipping. JK. Glad you figured it out.

Put a little dielectic grease where you plug the harness into the bulb. It waterproofs the connections and helps it last longer.
