My 98 Sportsman 500 water pump is leaking out the seep hole. Can someone give me an idea what I need to replace inside the housing. I have never had one of these water pumps apart before. I know I will need a new gasket, but do I need to replace the housing?
If your pump is leaking from the weep hole it's not that easy! The seal is located inside the engine. The cases must be split in order to service the pump bearing, seal and shaft.
Thanks for the info, but I already fixed it. I did not have to split the case though. I took the water pump cover off and replaced both the water pump seal and the oil seal. No more leak.
This is very good info, will save me lots of time and money. I wasn't aware that it could be done like that. My manual shows replacing with the cases split, Thanks for that post!
