Well, your manual should have instructions for the proper break in period. It is important to also break the belt in properly.
With that said, the manufacturers tend to be very conservative in their break in procedure. Here's how I break in my ATV's...
For the first 25 to 50 miles, take it pretty easy. Use both high and low range at the proper speed. No WOT.
For the next 50 miles, give it an occasional quick burst to 1/2 to 3/4 throttle for a second or two, and then leave off and go easy for a while. (I would change out all the fluids at 100 miles)
For the next 100 miles, give it an occasional quick burst to WOT for a second or two, and then let off and go easy for a while.
After 200 miles, it should be pretty broken in. However, I would stay away from long, extended periods of WOT for a couple hundred more miles.
The trick with a new engine is to get it briefly hot (not scorching hot), and then let it cool down. The allows everything to expand correctly, and contract correctly, and should seat everything nicely.
Essentially, don't baby it, but don't beat on it until it's ready for a good beating.

Break it in how you plan to ride it. If you plan to ride it hard ,Run it hard from the start. If you plan to putts around on it all the time than putt around on it from the start. when they built it, they ran it. Ride it how you want.

One last thing, when I have 4x4 on, it will go into reverse 4x4 right? the guy told me other other way around. and hold the yellow button in while i do that

Yep, your quad, ride it like you want. Certainly won't hurt to just... drive it normal. Going the other route and beating on it while it's new... will hurt it.
That yellow button on the XP's works different than the older Sportsman's. On your machine, it will kick into AWD when needed in reverse without holding that button. On your machine, that button simply overrides the speed limiter in reverse.

I would recomend that you ride it like normal after you put 10 hours or so on the engine. Many different schools of thought on this subject. Make sure you change your motor oil after 20 hours.
There is another thread posted here a day or so ago that explains why you don't ride it hard until you get some hours on the engine. I go by hours instead of miles.

The top speed is 60 - 65 mph. Ive had my 550 EPS up to 65 mph and its nice and smooth at that speed.
I will warn you, the stock tires are junk. On my second ride the side wall on one of the stock tires blew out, and the dealer wouldn`t cover it. So i bought a new set of BigHorn tires, there much better than the stock tires.

The manual has pretty specific instructions for the break- in. I'm following their instructions I'm sure it was created by a bunch of over paid engineers, plus I don't want any problems. Just my two cents.

Morning Mastroz,
North Branch gave it to you straight but Bob also brings up something I completely subscribe to... the first 10 hours are of the utmost important. I also like to change the oil and filter at 10 hours. Then again at 50, then in normal recommended intervals...
Oh and one more thing... The whole "Drive it like you stole it" thing is plain stupid... Just my 2cents.
Good luck,
CW
