Yes there is Fluid in the front differential. It should be changed regularly, as it sees a lot of friction small metal particles build up. Use only Polaris fluid in the front diff. If you can, let it drain overnight. On the bottom will be a drain plug and the fill is upper left(i think) on the diff case.

There is also fluid in the hubs on your model. Requires Polaris demand drive hub fluid. There is an allen head plug on each hub, fill it with the hole in the 4 or 8 o'clock position.

make sure all 4 of your tires are at the same pressure, and check and see if you have a bent tie rod end.

Disengage 4X4 and drive backwards 20-30 yards. Could be hub not disengaging. Visually check brake pads to ensure they're not frozen on the disk.

Have a 2000 sportsman 500 and you need to change that hub fluid in the front wheel hubs. Take it for a good run so it is warm then drain it right away and let it drip for a while. refill with the proper fluid only to the right level and you will be good to go.
