2001 sportsman 400 4x4 sounds like its grinding gears(rear end)

alright i got my polaris i bought her from a guy that beat the holy shit out of her and im slowly bringin her back now only in reverse i hear the gear grinding sound really badlly but going forward i dont hear her at all idk what TO THINK is it the axles or the rear end gears if anything i need help figuring it out. in other words doing test to see what my problem could be
