Ignition coils produce spark through a simple process called mutual induction. Run 12v DC into a coil of wire surrounding another coil of wire, break the current and the rapid collapse of the magnetic field induces a much greater voltage but lower amperage into the inner coil. Enough voltage to jump the spark plug gap seeking ground. If you have 12v dc and a signal (Sudden ground) it should produce a spark. With no moving parts an ignition coil rarely fails.
At some point you really need to take your vehicle to a dealership.

Before getting too involved, did you positively eliminate the kill switch on the handlebars? I've seen people tear their machines apart only to find the switch was off or defective.

I want to say ,that your pickup is ok, book says 97 ohms--white to white/red wire
white to ground --- infinity
Are you sure you don't have a bummed coil wire--should read 10400 ohms w/the plug cap on- wiggle it around and watch the meter for any change

Coil Gap
I had the same problem and found mine last night, I had the pickup coil too far away from the flywheel so the coil wasn't picking up the magnet when it passed by. I gapped mine with a dollar bill, yes the thickness of the dollar bill should be the gap space. The coil needs to be as close to the flywheel as it can without hitting it. Check this, may be your problem as well.
