2012 Sportsman 500HO L.E.
Just purchased a new 2012 500HO L.E. Camo in Pittsburgh 2 weeks ago. I spent the weekend with a buddy and we both picked up new quads on Saturday before Christmas. When we got back to his apartment i started mine up in the bed of my truck just because i was like a kid in a candy store. When i did i noticed that the low fuel light was flashing. I checked the gas tank and couldnt see much fuel in it. I didnt notice this flashing at the dealer when i loaded the quad, but i was trying not to run into my back window, not look at the gauges. The dealer did need to put it on the charger though for about an hour while i filled paperwork as the battery was pretty low.
I stopped on sunday to fill the truck up and filled the quad up at the same time. Got home and unloaded it with a full tank and the low fuel light was still flashing. Unhooked the battery cables for about 15 minutes, hooked back up, and BINGO, no more low fuel light. Didnt have time to ride for about 10 days, but would start it up in the garage everynite looking to see if the light came back on, NOTHING.
Rode for the first time this past Wednesday, 25 miles, no issues other than the fuel gauge was bouncing between 3-4 lit squares. Went to go for another ride Sunday, and the Low fuel lights on with 1/2 tank of gas, went on a half hour ride and the light shut off after about 15 minutes and read 1/2 full.
anyone know whats up with this? I've read it could be the sending unit, but on a brand new quad? maybe something happened from, hooking the charger up to the battery and not disconnecting the cables?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated as I have not called the dealer about this yet.
1 more thing, there is a slight click in the rearend when the EBS kicks in going down a hill. Is this normal?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!
PS: the weather has been cold everytime the low fuel light comes on. Is the gauge ran by a floatie that might be freezing?
Thanks again

At the very least I would have the dealer put in a new battery. They owe you that much. If it is a bad battery it could be causing your problem. I would first check to make sure the battery cables are good and tight.

Take it back, tell them you bought a new machine so you won't have problems, get it fixed.

I agree, have the dealer fix the gauge. If you monkey with it and still can't fix it, they might have a reason to deny the warranty.
The EBS clicking is normal.
