Just got done plowing some snow... AWD question

So as the title says, I just got in from plowing some snow. This is my first time with the plow on my quad so I have never had to use the AWD before this. I have a 2000 500 Sportsman. I got in a little jam in the snow so threw in the AWD but it didn't engage, the back wheels just kept spinning. I am the only owner and have had it since 2000 and never used the AWD before this so I don't know whats going on. How could I check whats going on? Also if its something thats going to be a lot of money, would chains on the tires help?
Thanks for your help!

Also side note/question, I was wondering how to adjust the sliders on the plow. It seems as if the plow did not get as close to the driveway as it should be, or maybe its my imagination but just wondering if you could adjust them or maybe I was just plowing over ice or something.
THANKS!

Does the 4wd light come on? Have you kept up on hub maintanace?
You have to hold the override button in for AWD in reverse to work.
If its an AWD problem and you take it to the dealer I'm sure it will be a few $$$.
Chains will help but AWD fixed will help more!

what kind of adjusters do you have on you plow...i have an older plow and have little metal slider that glides....otherwise, some of the newer ones have little cups with a rod coming strait up that usually mounts to each end and has a clip to adjust.

They mean changing the fluids in your front differential and if you don't use the Polaris brand oils sometimes your awd won't work same with old dirty oil

Not necessarily. Older models (don't know what year they changed over) have override clutches in the wheel hubs rather than the final drives. These required checking and changing the fluid (ATF) regularly. (I had a '94 that used these.) One bummer I remember from mine was hitting the plastic hub cap/plug on a rock, knocking it off and draining all the fluid onto the ground. - MarkC
