2003 Sportsman 500

I have a 2003 Sportsman 500 that will start with the pull rope but when I use the starter it turns over but it will not start. Any ideas?

If it is starting with the pull chord, and not the starter either the starter is bad, or the battery is on its way out and cant crank hard enough. At least that would be my guess. You may be able to test the battery or starter if you have access to a system diagnostic tool... or at least making sure the battery is creating the right voltage.

The battery is brand new. I took it to a shop and they put an after market starter on it and it still will crank over but will not start.

need to set pickup coil closer to flywheel, take recoil housing off , a match book cover or folded dollar bill is about the right thickness.
