Valves Ticking??

Ok I replaced the top end on my 03 500 Sportsman, piston, rings, gaskets, valveseals, the works. I had the head and the cylinder worked by a well known machine shop where I live. I set the valves at .006 in or .15 mm like the service manual said to. now I have a loud tick that sounds like the valves. Should I have them tighter or looser to begin with during the break in period of the new items and go back and readjust when the breakin is over. I know when you purchase a new machine they say to run the breakin and then have the valves adjusted. Should I loosen them a bit or what, please if you know let me know too because I have a lot tied up in the new build that I don't want to do again because of a dumb mistake. Thanks ahead for any info.

My 2010 has always had a tick. Valves have always checked out. I believe it is the compression release ball on the exhaust lobe. I need to open mine up again to see if there is a lot of wear on the exhaust lobe as well as re-check the lash. It hasn't seem to have gotten worse but it has always bugged me. Maybe check the decompression mechanism to ensure it is installed correctly and not hanging up the small mechanism in the cam.

Cam Ball

I had the cam inspected by a mechanic at the Polaris dealership and he said it was good and the ball too but when I say it has a tick...it has a tick (loud tick). I set the timing and checked it over twice so I don't think thats an issue but I wasn't sure about the valve clearance. I called myself having it at top dead center when they were set but I see a teardown comming this weekend to recheck them. I would rather spend 3 or 4 hrs tearing it down and putting it back over spending another couple of hundred for another piston and some valves. Will post back when I finish. I am taking it to a mechanic to have him check behind me. Thanks for the input. I'm gonna be a certified Polaris mechanic when I'm done with this one lol.

Let us know what you find regardless. If nothing else it will give me more items to check potentially.
