just traded in a 2012 Renegade 1000 x xc on a xp. I had buyer's remorse because it cost way more than what it was worth to me after I had a few rides on it. Besides the power I didn't think it was that great and it developed a couple issues so I cut my losses and traded it in. I've had Polaris before and I'm much more comfortable with them. Hands down Polaris gives you the best value for your hard earned cash!

It really depends on your riding style. Those are two totally different machines. Utility vs sport. As far as reliability, I beleive the two machines are on the same level. They both do a lot of things very well, and also have their minor issues. As far as the 850 vs can am 800 engine, the can am 800 is more proven then the sportsman 850.

having rode both machines thru the woods, mud, and dirt roads, I would never have the renegade. anything but dry land and you will be covered with dirt/mud. also the lack of storage/racks is a major deal breaker on the renegade. the renegade is fun for about an hour then u regret riding it. also carrying an extra person isn't reasonable on the renegade. just my opinions.

I too had an Renegade 800X, they're light and fast. It was fun for a short time and I even ordered a Can Am rack which was a joke for carrying much of anything. I ended up selling the Rene after several months of needing something a bit more useful

Just recently picked a 2011 850 X2 and couldn't be happier. The rear box and enclosed front did the trick for me. Now I can carry the chain saw, cooler and other gear into the woods. It's plenty fast and rides great but what does this old fart know? Just that it works great for me.
