Charging problem

How do I know if the stator is working correctly? The battery goes down quick after several starts. The battery is only 2 months old. If you use the on board diagnostic, it shows 14.4v to 14.7, which is normal volatge on a 12v system. The bike runs great. Could it be the voltage regulator.

Charging voltage sounds about right, you may want to return the battery and have them load test it,most have a free replacement period, within a specified time. 3 months to a year

If you have a multimeter you may want to check the voltage at the battery while the bike is running. Also disconnect the ground on the battery and with everything off connect a test light between the ground and the battery ground to see if it lights. This will tell you if there is some type of draw on the battery while the machine is off. Also check the voltage with the machine off a fully charged battery should be between 12.5 and 12.8 volts. If thte battery is below 12.1 it is considered drained. If it's lower then 11.8 its dead and needs a recharge.

You may have just got a bad battery, however you will be surprised how a little mud and water can cause a drain on the battery when exposed so some of the connectors.

Charging problem

Zero drain on the battery with the bike off. 12.7v on the battery, 14.5 with the bike running. Could it be the regulator?

Russ, Just wanted to let you know that I had the battery tested and it would not hold a charge. Interstate gave me a new battery. Everything is fine now. Thanks to all that helped.
