Lock Diff

Would an 2007 Sportsman 500 HO have a lock differential, stock?

The 4x4 systems is fully locked in when it kicks in, but the system works much differently then any other machine or vehicle out there. At 1/5 of one rear wheel revolution of slip, the front wheels kick in, giving you a fully locked 4x4 drive system until the rear regain traction again.

It is locked, but doesn't have a differential lock switch like a Grizzly would.

Just to try and help clarify a little more, the term "differential" really shouldn't be used as there really is no differential on either the front or rear axle. Differential implies that there is some independence between the left and right wheels on the same axle which allows the outer wheel on a turn to spin more than the inner wheel. What's really the case is that the front and rear "final drives" are mechanically locked from left to right and both wheels on the axle turn at the same rate at all times. Engaging the AWD merely locks the front final drive in with the rear under the conditions Blueline15 explained.

Some ATV's have differentials on one or both axles, which allows the left and right wheels to turn at different rates during turns. This also means that on an axle with a differential, the wheel losing traction will spin unless there is a mechanism to "lock" the differential so both wheels on that axle turn at the same rate.
