2011 LE 550 EPS Power Steering Problems already
I just picked up a 2011 LE Sportsman 550 EPS on Saturday and took it out today for 2 hours or riding, mostly field, climbing some dirt hills, a little mud and creek bottom riding. Everything was fine until about an hour into riding my EPS stopped working. The battery light came on the display and the power steering light would come on and go off intermittently. I shut it off re-started and the battery light went off and the EPS worked for about 5 minutes and then the same thing happened again. Took it back to the house, power washed it, check the fuses and battery connections and everything looked fine. Started it up again and the battery light was not on and the EPS worked fine...for about 5 minutes and it happened again.
I have read most of the thread about this, but most of them don't say what was wrong and what the dealer did to fix it. I'm pissed I have to load this 2 day old 550 backup and take it back already.
Thanks in advance for the help and great forum!!

Check if battery connections are tight enough, before you take it the dealer.

Yes, check battery cables and the connectors going into the EPS unit. Make sure they are tight. also check your ground wire underneath the steering stem. It could be loose as well.
Also check to see if you have any codes being thrown and write them down.
If it persists you will have to drop it back off at the dealer.

I did check the battery terminal connections and they were tight. I'll check the ground and the connections going into the EPS unit itself.
Would the codes be flashing up on the LCD screen above the battery symbol, or next to the power steering idiot light that was going of and on?
I would love to hear from other members that have had this problem what the dealer has had to repair or replace to resolve this issues.

Same Problems
I had the same problem when I purchased my 2011 Sportsman 550 EPS. After two days the same problems started to occur.
After two months of trouble shooting by the Service Manager it was determined that there was a problem with the Main Wiring Harness. You have to be a bit forceful because my Manager was very reluctant to change out a $545.00 part which also needs 5 - 6 hours of labor to complete the task.
Been riding the bike now for about 2 wks without any issues.

I wonder what it was, specifically wrong with the harness?? I'll just bet that the problem area in the harness could be fixed without changing out the entire harness.
Does anybody know?
