starting trouble
i have a 1999 sportsman 500 and when i try to start it the solenoid clicks and it has a brand new starter solenoid and battery cant figure it out thanks

Well, if the solenoid is new (and the clicking is good in regards to that part) and the battery is new, and we know the ignition is working since the solenoid is clicking, the only thing left is a bad starter motor. Probably worn brushes inside the starter.

the sttarter is brand new to and i jumped it off my truck and it works the crazy thing is i can take the positive off the starter and get 12 volts on my meter but when i hook it back up to the stater the solenoid clicks

You mean you take the red cable off of the starter and you get 12v on the end of that cable?

I'm still suspect of the starter at this point. Is it a brand new OEM starter? How new?
Also, may be worthwhile load testing the battery. Volts isn't what the starter uses, it is amperage. May be the battery doesn't have the amperage to turn over the motor.

its a brand new starter from db electrial just got it friday and i even hooked up jumping cables from my truck to battery n still just got clicking

I got same problem, haven't tested anything. What should I troubleshoot? Mine did start fine when I bought it from a guy, then it would start to engage the starter and not complete, now it just clicks at the solenoid. It has a new battery. I have a multi-meter, what do I need to check?

check for loose wires mine was doing that not too long ago and the battery wire were loose tighten them up and bam also check for corrision if it is use any sand paper to fix that really and check wires going from battery to solenoid to starter oh and btw the guy is it from a guy off ebay selling starters for 45 bucks with free shipping
