where to buy ball joints and tie rod ends
Best place to buy parts for a 1998 sportsman and 2003 ranger 500 4x4? Looking for ball joints, tie rod ends, other parts.

All balls brand of tie rod ends are good. The tie rod kit will include 1 outer and 1 inner tie rod end. They might make ball joints also.

They certainly do make ball joints. I replaced mine with All balls brand last summer. No problems so far but they are not greaseable. But then I don't think any aftermarket brand is. I got mine on ebay.

I replaced the tie rod ends on my Sportsman 450 about 8 or 9 months ago. They seem to be holding up just fine so far. I got mine off ebay as well. I believe it was around 50 bucks for two pairs.

Pull your boots on your tie rod ends away a tad and squirt some Lithium grease into them, they'll last longer. You can't buy greasable ball joints anymore even if you go OEM, way to go Polaris, the ball joints are the lowest part of your front suspension and you should be able to grease them.

Just out of curiosity, what symptoms does it show when these parts wear?

Lift the front end on a block, grab the top and bottom of your tire and try to rock it toward and away from you from the bottom. If you feel play , it's a worn ball joint. They will last till they break but cause uneven tire wear and loose feeling steering etc...
