What r the differences?
Hi, newbee to atv/utv, I am interested in the sportsman touring 550 EPS and have just a few questions......
1. Besides the engine size and color are there any other differences between a 550 and 850?
2. Will i notice that big a difference in power if i'm a newbee rider?
3. will the 550 be underpowered if i have a passenger on board combined weight being appx 400 pounds in rider alone?
4.can a 550 come with all the stuff you see on a 850 LE?
5.are there any other colors to choose from besides red or blue, for a 550?
My type of riding.....thru the forests type trails not looking to set any land speed records but dont want a dog either, fair weather rider dont plan on riding in mud snow..........but will find myself out on the dunes occasionally.
Thx Duke

I have a regular sportsman 500, it is a little lacking on power riding double when you are below 10 miles per hour in high gear.
in low gear, which we can go up to 20 mph pretty easily, it has GOBS of power. We actually weigh about 420 combined.
I don't have one of those machines, so i can't comment on the power difference other than it is quite large, but from what I read the 550 is definitely not underpowered.
I don't know how the 550/850 XP chassis handles 400 lbs, but if i had a trailer/truck/etc that would fit the extra 10 inches of an x2 or touring, i definitely would have went that route. The extra 5-10 inches of wheelbase will make it a lot more sturdy than mine is with 2 people on.
You should really try to ride both of the bikes you are looking at.
Cheers.

I have the 850 Touring and its an animal.. The 550 has enough power to take you anywhere you want to go so don't worry about that.. Grab an 850 if you can since more is always better, but don't worry about the 550 being a dog.. its got plenty of grunt for anything you'll need to do.. I don't think there's an LE version of the 550 touring though so you'll have to add the accessories yourself..

There is a huge power difference from the 550 to the 850. As a new rider, and from the riding you say you will be doing, I think the 550 would be a great machine for you.
The only difference between the two is the engine. Other than that, they are the same atv. Everything you see on one will fit on the other.
The Touring is the perfect atv if you plan on riding double. Very stable and comfortable. The X2 is also a great machine, but for some reason Polaris hasn't seen fit to equip it with EPS?????
Test ride both the 550 and 850 before you buy so you don't have any regrets later.
Have fun shopping.
