newb with 2006 sportsman 700 EFI

I traded another 4 wheeler for this machine a few months ago, I love this thing, I never really had the opportunity to enjoy a 4x4 ATV until this past weekend and the mud was flying! So before I drop some money into this to customize it and make it my own, I need to know if their are things I need to look out for or anything to do for preventative maintanence. It has about 1200 miles on it, everything appears to work great, sometime the check engine light comes on when I first start it but will go away when I start to drive. Are there any weak links in this machine?
Some more questions- what generation is this machine? What is the bolt pattern? What is the biggest tire I can run without having it rub? What kind of upgrades do you all recommend?

I'll get back to you tomorrow in the morning with more info, but quickly it doesn't have a generation. The generation label was stopped by Polaris in 2004. In 2005 and newer they went to model years only.
