hot lite

okay he i go--i have a '12 sportsman 500ho camo pursuit and have 12 miles on it.yesterday was out doing some break in riding and the "hot" lite came on the insyrument cluster. i was in 4 low coming up a slight muddy incline when this happened. nothing was blocking the grill and was not working the machine. came home checked everything and ould find nothing causing it.also it was approx 48 degrees outside when this happened. sooooo my question is this when you turn the key on to start it should the electric fan be running? i took it back out today and put approx 2-3 more miles of easy riding and the hoyt light did not come back on but also checked an the electronic fan was not running prior to starting it. it is about 20 degrees cooler here today. any thought or suggestions? thanks

Not if the engine is cold. I think it needs to be around 180 degrees or so to kick on. If the engine is hot and you turn it off, then turn the key on without starting the motor the fan will continue to run.

Could be a bad temp sensor, if you're still under warranty I'd give your dealer a call.

It now sounds like you may have some sort of electrical issue. There is no such thing as "breaking in" a float, it either goes up and down freely or it sticks, in which case something is wrong especially on a brand new machine.
