Engine noise

I took my 2012 500 Sportsman out for the first time and there is a knocking type sound from the engine when under a load going up hill. When on flat ground or when accelerating it does not make the noise. Could this be a counter balancer? The engine runs great, I am half way thru the break in period. Thanks

if you could post a recording of it that may help us to figure out what the term "knocking" means to you. Since everyone describes things differently. Knocking or tapping under load could be detonation with poor fuel (among other things) or it could be normal.

It's not spark knock its a deeper noise. I know a noise is hard to describe, I have a feeling it's normal.

I'm guessing its still under waranty, so use that waranty!
