EBS is NOT standard on these machines, you have to order it as an option. They got it for me free of charge. I hope it helps this aweful clanking sound. What do you all think? My buddy has the 800 X2 with the EBS and he doesn't notice any clanking. Will see if it works.
My 08 800 has EBS and still has the noise, although mabye not as loud as yours is/was but still noticible. My 15yr old daughter rides it now and I ride my xp so it doesn't bother me anymore lol. But I believe it is just slack in the gears and nothing to worry about IMO.

You have a valid point. The slack is always going to be there and may get worse with wear. It may also vary from machine to machine. Mine is so slight now with the EBS that it makes it tolerable. Without it, oh my it was horrific. You could hear me coming down a hill a mile away. Clackity clank click click. Now I don't even need to use brakes much.

I just bought a 2010 800 Sportsman, it too has clanking noise after you cut the throttle going at speed. This is happening on a snow covered road I might add. It seems like the wheel/transmission speed being greater than the engine speed will cause this. My unit does not have the
engine braking system on it. Our friend from Alaska has had good luck I believe... I wonder what the kit will cost in Canada??? Anybody know??

Just thought I would add to the thread for any one that is interested. I have a 2011 Sportsman 400HO. I have the same noise if I'm braking hard or slowing down. I have 2300KMs on the quad with no problems and it seems to be fine. I checked my drain plug on the trany and there's no wear marks on it like others have noted.

Hey guys, I have a 2010 800 Mine does the same thing since it was new..took it back to the dealer they said it is normal. they said that when they first came out with the 800 they had problems with them breaking gears because of the high torque so they hardend the gears and they had to put more slack in the gears becuase of this so that is why you hear the noise
