Help with winch installation

Hey guys,

I have a 2012 Polaris Sportsman 400 HO that I just bought and was trying to install the Polaris winch kit I bought. The instructions say to connect a yellow and blue wire, but all I see is a black wire and another wire with red tape at the end. There is a label surrounding these wires that say winch connection though. Does anyone know if these are the right cables and if so, which should I use as the "blue" and "yellow" wire as they mention in the instructions. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I just installed a Polaris winch on my 850. The blue and yellow went from the winch electrical studs to the solenoid (that came wit the winch. The black and red connected to the battery. Your black/white may connect to the wire harness.

There are so many threads about how to properly install a winch on our 2011/12 atv's so search and you will have a tonne on info available.
Markl was correct, the black wire and the other wire with red tape are to connect to your battery. DO NOT connect them directly to your winch...they get connected to your solenoid/contactor.
the yellow and blue wires are connected from your solenoid/contactor to your winch.
Good luck with the install, it is way easier than i thought once i did a bit of reading.

Something just doesn't add up. The yellow and blue wire coming from the winch if stretched up does not come close to where the rocker switch wire comes down. Since, if I'm not mistaking they all plug into the solenoid, they should come close together.

Where are you mounting the solenoid for the winch?

That is a good questions. I can't really tell from the instructions where it is talking about and I can't find a picture, so I stretched the wires from the winch up and stretched the toggle switch wire down to see where they were closest, so that I could make an assumption of where I should mount it. Honestly, I don't know where to mount it. I've seen some pictures of peopel mounting it in front of the radiator, but I know the wire from the rocker switch will not reach this far.

Look a few posts down the page and you will see another winch install that posts pictures so you can see where he put his contactor and probably will see some other info you need.
