winch for 500ho

thinking about installing a winch on my 2012 500ho. Can someone give me some advice on how hard it is to install ? or how easy. I have looked at some on line,do most also need a mounting kit or do they come with one. any help would be most helpful. thanks

lots of info on the same subject already posted here. They are VERY easy to install, you need a mount kit and a winch, the Polaris 500 H.O. is already pre-wired so all you have to do is hook up the winch to the solenoid. the wires from the battery to the solenoid are already there, just hook them up.
a good thread to start is here....

easy to install. Will take about 3 hours for your first time. There are a couple of threads with pics on here that can help you through it. Basically, order a winch of your choice with a mounting bracket. There is a power cable that is hanging by the radiator that is already run back to the battery (not hooked up at the battery yet though). Install the winch, run the yellow and blue wires from the winch to the solenoid and match up the other colors. The power wire by the radiator goes to the contactor (there is no negative wire there..it is already grounded). Install the rocker switch and run the wires down the handlebar. Take off the middle section of the front plastic and your wires are in there (and fuses, etc). You will see two orange wires with spades already on them. Choose one and use that to power the rocker switch. Finally, dig out the other red power cable that is bundled up by the battery and hook it up. You should be good to go.

I can't tell a difference in steering.. It's doesn't weigh enough to load down the front end as say if you had a 150 lb deer on the front rack.. You will be fine

No differance in steering. Mske sure the cables to the winch are not too tight. You will need to unbolt it to check the front diff fluid.

How to check front diff fluid on 2011 - Present Value Model Sportsmans.

Thanks,

I noticed this on my 500HO 2011, when installing the winch, there is a little panel under the headlight that slides off. Under here you will possibly find two orange wires. they are keyed wires. but they go to nothing. I would use one of these vs T-taps or wire taps.

I installed my warn XT25. it took a little while of doing. Mostly because I like to make it look factory as much as possible. Also invest in dialectic grease and grease up each connector as they are not sealed like most connections on the 500.
