Question Carb Adjustment

On my 99 Sportsman 500 my top end power has been lacking lately, and there has been a significant amount of backfire when decelerating. I expected it to be an air/fuel mixture problem. is there a good diagram anywhere on how to adjust this or does anybody have ideas? Thanks

To get it to stock settings turn the screw all the way in and back out 2 5/8 turns. A lack of power and backfiring tells me it is lean. Check your spark plug too... white = lean, black = rich. You want it to be a light brown color to be right. I would suggest getting a jet kit and starting from the beginning. (JKP500SPT-1, $48.95 from High Lifter)

I second on checking the camshaft. I bet the exhaust lobe is worn. Keeping the oil changed will help prevent premature camshaft failure. Use 0W-40 fully synthetic Polaris or Mobil 1 oil and a good filter(Polaris or WIX,NAPA or Carquest).

I have not checked the camshaft yet ( my atv is at the dealer due to the electronics not working) once i get it back i will check the cam and i am ordering a jet kit from high lifter at the moment. Once i get it back i am going to install the jet kit and tune it to my altitude (almost 3500 feet above sea level)
