Gas Mileage

How far can you go on a full tank of fuel on a 500 Sportsman HO? Trail riding at relatively slow speeds. I always chicken out and fill up at about 1/8-1/4 tank. Guestimating around 115-120 miles?

Too far to walk out in a day.... take a jerry can full and give it a try.. it would depend on terrain here in BC a bit more hills and deactivated roads to power through... interesting to know because the wifes' 500 can go a whole lot further than my 700. I guess I get about half her mileage.

I dont know the answer, but pretty dam far.

I put 600 miles on my 400ho and only actually filled it maybe? 3 or 4 times.
And added a tiny bit here and there.

I fill the 850 every weekend. Kinda miss the fuel milage of the value lines!

I have never seen a 500HO go this far on a tank of gas. My buddy fills his up at 80 miles and his is EFI. My old carb 500 was the same. At 80 miles better be putting some fuel in.

I guess how many hours running you can get would be a better gauge as mileage has too many variables, I can run the 700 for about 2 1/2 hours before I need a fill the 500 can run about 4 hours before it needs a drink. This is based on equal terrain and conditions easy going not hard working like pulling trees out or towing the trailer or the disc to till the ground.

^^ that seems REALLY bad as my 850 can suually get around 5 hours give or take a bit depending on how i ride. Thats with almost no idling.

My 400 was more like 8 hours give or take.

I also use premium , which i personally think helps milage bc of less ethanol. (Not looking to start the regular vs premium debate)

I have an 05 500 HO and have done 2 rides in the last couple of weeks, both times I have done around 100 kms with maybe a liter or 2 left in the tank, I cannot see how you would get the range you are guesstimating.

Sommer Trailrides

2007 500EFI X2 = 13-17 Ltr/100km
2010 400 = 13-16 Ltr/100km

But the X2 holds way more Gas

I ran about 60 miles yesterday and the fuel gauge still shows 3 bars or half a tank. Terrain was pretty flat and easy going. Double that distance for remaining half tank and subtract a wee bit gave me the estimate of 115-120 maybe. Unless the fuel gauges are not accurate I'm thinking I should get 100+. Will monitor and see how it goes. Thanks for your input.
