CV boot replacement

I have a 2007 Sportsman 500 that needs a new CV boot on the front wheel side. I ordered a kit from the dealer, but was wondering how to do it? Any special tools needed? Thanks, Mike

I did one on mine last summer. The only special tool would be the one that tightens/installs the CV boot clamp. Quite expensive. I screwed the Polaris clamp up cuz I'm too cheap to by the tool (did I say EXPENSIVE), so I just went to NAPA and got the clamp for a Honda front wheel drive car ($3) and put it on with needle nose pliers.
Cut the clamps an boots off and the cv's will pop off with a rubber mallot or a slide hamer. There is a circlip in the joint that will spread and allow the shaft to come out. I found a video on Youtube-Going 4WD-Replacing a Broken CV Joint Boot. I couldn't get a link to work for this post. But I Googled the title and it came up.

Thanks Offroadster, that's what I was looking for, I think I'll try the pliers as well, rather than buy the tool.

You're right. You can work those clamps on if you are lucky or persistant. I think I did mine with channel locks too. Took a couple trys but got them on. Overall the boot replacement is pretty easy. I took the shaft off, held it by both ends and pushed the shafts together to expand the circlip then pulled apart quick. It came right apart.
