06 Sportsman X2 Starting Problems

Hi all, I bought a 06 Sportsman X2 a couple of months ago that has over 6000 miles but it seemed like a decent deal. The battery became sluggish lately barely getting it started and didnt seem to be holding a charge so I got a new battery. Before the new battery came in it would barely even turn over it was so weak. So I used the pull start. It pull starts very easily. Anyway, I put in the new battery and barely turned over. So...... I have cleaned the connections at the battery, solenoid, ground to frame and still the same. Haven't done the connections at the starter yet because I would have to start pulling things off to get to it. So I tried jumping from one side of the solenoid to the other and turned over a little, but then it seemed to do nothing. I turned off the key and now it just clicks. So maybe I killed the solenoid? Ok I can live with that I guess. Called it a night. So then last night I tried to start it again and the solenoid just clicked still. So I took the solenoid end of the positive cable that goes from the starter to the solenoid off and put it directly on the battery, turned on the key and and the starter did nothing. The starter has sounded all along like the bendix needs to be replaced but did I kill the starter somehow too? Or do I just need to clean those connections? Any help would be appreciated. Just dont want to go buy a solenoid and starter if I dont need to. Thanks a lot.

I think you will need to purchase a new solenoid and starter. So maybe your older battery is still good??
