I'm trying to change the outer cv boot on the rear. Have the tire off, hub off, and the race removed. Here is my question.. Do you knock the actual cv joint off the splined shaft or do you have to pull the whole rear axle out to do this. I'm going to try and attach a pic of what i'm looking at. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated!!
I have a 04 500HO and i just changed my boot, if its the outer u dont need to pull the shaft rite out, i cut the boot off then i cleaned the grease out of the cv, when you clean the grease out there is a clip around the shaft, squeeze it together and tap the cv off the end with a rubber hammer or pull it off by hand if you can, clean, regrease, slide the boot on then squeeze clip and slide cv back on, secure boot and ur done!
