Sportsmans lights flash then shut off?? Help

Hello, my 2002 500 Sportsman likes to close its eyes at night and its getting old. The headlights will start to flash/flicker and after about 5 seconds they go out. I turn the headlight switch off for a for 30 seconds then turn the switch back on and the headlights come back on for about 20 seconds then start flickering again. This only occurs while the engine is running. I can't get the lights to flash with just the key on. Battery appears good. Starts/runs great, just don't know exactly where to start. Any suggestions would be greatly appriceated. Thanks.

good place to start would be in the switch itself.also check along the wiring for anybreaks or fraying or bad ground.

It was the breaker under the front panel just below the headlight. Replaced it with another 20 amp breaker and good to go, thanks..

Cool 2000 popo sportsman flickering headlights

I too am having trouble with my headlights on my 2000 popo sportsman 500. The low beam bumper lights or the high beam pod light will flicker when I punch the throttle. At idle they glow nice and bright, but when I am cruising down a dirt road it start to flicker. It's intermittent when it does this, but always while driving. When bike is at stand still at idle the lights glow normal. I read your comments about the breaker getting corroded, so I have looked for the breaker u guys mentioned. I don't see one under my front panel under pod. I found a 20amp breaker on left side of bike near battery inside a waterproof black bag. I cut it open and the breaker appeared dry/clean, but maybe the internals are shot? Is there one under front panel on 2000 model or is this the one I found on left side the one that affects the headlights? I own the popo manual but I can't find location of all the bikes breakers. It simply shows schematics what they connect to but not where it's affixed on frame of bike. I don't know electrical very well, but I am very mechanical and can do the handy work myself with some advice from other Polaris owners. Any help is greatly appreciated. I can't safely ride at night with headlights flickering dim to bright like a strobe light. LOL!
