Welcome
Your radiator could be clogged with dirt, grass, or mud. Or the engine is running to lean, also check that the fan is running fast enough. These machines with cvt transmissions create alot of heat.

The fan seems to run the same as always but I did go through alot of mud at one point I wasn't sure if this could be the problem or could it be that the water pump isn't pumping??

Those pumps usually don't go out, but could be. I think the fan switch is on the radiator, so if the fan is running it's usually pumping like it should.
My friends Polaris fan went out and he would pour a bottle of water on it when it said hot. That cooled it right down.

Check the plug going to the temp sender. It is on the left side of the engine, near the head. If you dont have good contact in the plug, the readout will say Hot and the fan will come on. You arent really overheating, just a sender malfunction. I expanded the male prongs on mine slightly and ziptied the plug together.
Have not had a problem since.
Hope this helps,
Jay

Looks like I'm having same problem.....can you help me.
I'm a newby to this forum and a new Polaris owner.
I just bought a bran new 2010 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO carburated and its "running HOT"(machine as only 2km ans is still clean). The radiator fan is not turning "ON".
I have check the main fuse and its goog. Jump the radiator fan temperature sensor and the fan is still not turning (meaning that the temp sensor is good), I have check for fan motor connection and it also looks good. Does anybody have any idea on what to check next? I do not want to bring ATV back to dealer sinse the my dealer that I purchase from is about 2 1/2hr away. Please help.
thanks
Eric
