Backup light bulbs
Does anyone know what bulb I need for the backup lights on an 08 Sportsman 800 ? I have the touring model, but I would think the bulbs would be the same. For some reason, my pods are empty, and I never noticed until the other night.

those are not back up lights. those are rear worklights. in 2007 the deluxe models came with the bulbs and a switch on the dashpod to turn them on and off. all the other machines in 07 and 08 still had those taillights are were wired for them, but didnt come with the bulbs. i believe it was in 09 they when to an all red taillight.
on top of needing the bulbs, you will also need the toggle switch to go into the headlight pod, you will need to remove the pod, cut a sqaure hole in it for the switch, and connect the proper lights to the switch (it should be prewired for it already). you can get the kit from any dealer.
but, just putting bulbs in there wont work, as i said, its not hooked up to the reverse gear

Well, if that isn't one of the dumbest things I've heard in a while !!!! I guess that's a $200 switch and bulbs from Polaris ?!?!?!?!?!
Thanks for the info though. I would have been pulling my hair out after I put bulbs in and they didn't work.

i think its $20 or $30 kit from polaris for two bulbs and the switch. but the bulbs are like $22 a piece alone. not really worth it IMO. the fiche doesnt tell you the type of bulb, but if you could look at one, it should have the number stamped on the base of the bulb, and can probably get an aftermarket bulb for way less.

While doing a search this morning, I came across this http://http://www.quadovator.com/1089042.html. Does anyone know anything about this company ? And does this sound like it'll work ?

I have an early built 09 Touring still had the half white (work light) and half red lights bought the $20 kit from polaris (thought it was special or something) includes a switch and two 12.8v bulbs, ended up using switch but went out and bought 2 17.3v bulbs for $3 from fleet farm for a little better light all wiring was there after june of 09 they went to an all red tailight with no worklight. Should've just saved $10 and bought switch from fleet to

I bought the rear work light kit from my local Polaris dealer. Was $19.99 + tax. Took me about 20 minutes to do the install and it works perfectly.

Well if you do notice they are not bright enough, the bulbs are just auto bulbs

Thanks guys. My local dealer has the Polaris kit for $23, but it is only switch activated. The quadovator kit is reverse activated for $30, and can get a switch for manual operation for another $14. I'm giving this kit serious consideration.

i want to get this kit too but I don't want to cut my wiring harness. they should be OK for backing up at night like off your truck/trailer. I guess it works OK lots of guys here did it from them at quadevader. I did my own thing on my old quad just went to the local napa and picked up a fog light kit then hooked it up by the reverse light indicator can't do that with the sportsman though
