Well....I have an 04. 500, carb jobbie. My Fan all of a sudden came on, all by itself, and would not shut off, as well as the HOT Indicator/Check Engine flashing on the speedo. I was told there was a factory recall on 04's and 05's for the ECM being faulty. Of Course my VIN didn't fall under the "affected" ones. So i just purchased a new ECM.

Hoping that's the fix. Not sure if there is a similar issue with the 2010's or not.

Had another idea. Is it possible there is a air bubble in the water pump? I've heard that if this happens the fan motor will not turn on.

The advice here is free, but ain't always right. Tryin to help you buddy.

I'm beginning to think you need a factory technician to look at your machine especially since its new. However, I found reference to a bubble in a 500 ho online and here is what the guy said to do to check for an air bubble.

"There is a 3/8" bolt (plug) on the water pump housing, loosen that bolt while the engine is running until coolant comes out then replace. For some reason the 500's will develop an air pocket in the water pump housing when the coolant is drained and refilled. This happened to mine when I replaced the mechanical seal in the water pump."

Since your machine is new I doubt there is a bubble. 2004 and 05's had a recall for faulty fans. Are you sure your grounds are nice and tight? I think I'd take it in before you blow a head gasket messing with it

Problem fix. It turn out to be a missing fan braker in the wirring hardness located near the battery. Thanks for everybody for their help.

Does anybody have a wirring diagram for the 2010 Sportsman HO carburated?

Thanks again

New to the forum and frustrated with my 2003 polaris sportsmen 600 over heating. Drive about 2 miles and it over heats. Can anyone tell me if they have had the smae problem? Or where to locate the thermostat?

I have a 2009 Sportsman 500 also. 3000 miles.I just got an overheating problem with fan trying to
start. Fan bumping itself to start but not running. Fan was free to turn. Turn Key off then
back on, fan would start full speed.Problem of fan not re-starting itself repeats.
Fan motor runs fine when 12 volts applied directly to fan leads.
Any suggestions ?

thermo sensor bad, ton both, if you unplug tghe wires at sensor with key on , fan should come on , if not , sensor is bad , especially if fan runs when 12 volts are hooked to it
