i replaced the starter and the battery..it started fine about 5 times and now same situation..battery neg. terminal is getting melted and cant start 2002 polaris sportsman 500.. what else could be causing the battery drain and terminal melting ?
You have a hot wire shorted to ground somewhere. It must be a big wire if its melting the battery terminal. Strange that it isn't taking out a fuse. I'd start by tracing the positive wire from the battery back to the fuse block. Do you have a good multimeter? Look for shorts on the Positive side wiring. Disconnect the battery terminals and put the meter between the + and - terminals and measure the resistance. I bet its close to zero ohms. Remove and replug in fuses until it goes away.
Do you have a winch I would start there it has to be a short pulling alot of amps.
