VIN number

I have recently aquired a used Polaris Sportsman 500 6x6 and it needs some parts. I'm having trouble finding the VIN number and I was told it should be on the frame. I've looked everywhere on the frame and can't find it. Can someone help me?

in the front left wheel well (as you are sitting on the machine)

it is usually stamped on the lower square frame tubing. its the piece that the a-arm bolt up too. you will see after it bolts to that, it will angle out to the full width of the machine. that angled piece is where it is stamped. it is stamped using a series of dots to form the the VIN. its is usually covered by mud or dirt, and that part of the frame will need to be cleaned pretty well before you will be able to read it. you are also going to need a flashlight. it is a PITA to read, but if cleaned and take your time, it should be there. its a pretty standard spot.

I have one more issue that you may be able to help me with. I am wondering why my wheeler would not move by only using the front wheels when there are no chains on the back. I tried engaging the front wheels, the drive shaft spins but the wheels never locked in. Does it already have to be moving before they engage or should this have pulled me along without the back chains on???

glad you found the VIN#. almost all polaris's will have a VIN stamped there.

as far as i know, even on your machine, the front wheels wont lock in until it detects a rear wheel slip. so unless it sees the rear tires suddenly accelerate, it shouldnt engage the font.
