No Electrical Power

I have a 2007 Sportsman 500 EFI with under 100 hours of use. I am now having a random electrical problem. I have no power when I key up the quad. The kill switch is in run, turn the key on and most of the time nothing happens (Like a dead battery).

This all started with having random loss of power (meaning with the ignition on and kill switch in run, the fuel pump would kick on and speedo would light up then sundenly it would all shut off, Then kick back on, then off. Sometimes it would all power up and then you go to crank the starter and it would just click (like a dead battery). Now nothing will power up. The best description of this problem is like having a loose connection (but all are tight and do not have corrosion), hence sometimes getting some power to the ignition and sometimes nothing.

All the tests that I have run lead me back to the PDM (Power distribution module). I have a good battery (12.0V), I have 12v to the PDM, but only 4.5v going from the PDM to the ignition switch. Somethimes I will get a random surge of full power (12v) to the ignition, but then only a copuple of volts at the starter (so it wont crank), then it all looses power. I believe the problem to be in the PDM which is non-serviceable and very expensive. I am really hoping that its not that, since the quad is in exceptional shape with low hours, never abused.

I am still in the process of talking with my dealer about this issue, but i wanted to see if anyone has ever had a similar problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My 500 sportsman x2 was doing the same thing tried everything, finally figured out that it is in the Kill switch with the headlight switch and reverse override button. I started wiggling the red kill switch and power started flickering and eventually stayed on long enough to crank the engine. I have a new switch assembly ordered for $70.00 will let you know when i get it changed.

Polaris ECM a problem but Cust Service reps are RUDE

My 07 Sportsman 500 has been at the dealer since Dec 7 finally they decided all my problems were a faulty ECM unit $400 bucks but they wil not start making these parts until Jan 10, 2011. Polaris just recalled 95,000 units from 06 and they don't even have one in the NATION!!!! The reps at the 800 customer service bascially said NOT MYPROBLEM and YOU DON'T HAVE ANY WHERE ELSE TO GO FOR HELP. I AM NOT A HAPPY camper and will continue to try and find someone at Polaris who cares. Polaris doesn't know anything about all these problems with the electrial system occording to their reps.

It Turned out mine was not the Kill switch, it was the Power Control Module (PCM) and it cost me $200.00 Dealer could not figure out what was wrong they were just replacing random parts, so i brought it home and fixed it myself.
