In need of help

Hi,
I am new to this forum..I recently picked up what i believe is a trail boss. I used the swing arm and gear box along with the front end to build my son a mini sand rail. I can not get it to go in the forward gear though..Neutral and reverse work great. It has a solenoid by the selector on the gearbox. if this is not working will it prevent it from going in the forward gear? Thanks
