Gear shift keeps popping out into neutral!
Went out for a ride today, on the landing of a couple jumps the gear shifter popped out of Forward and into Neutral. (happened 2 or 3 times)
This trailblazer doesnt feel like the "gates" are as pronounced as my old sportsman. When you put it into gear there's not effort needed to slide it in.
I took at look at the linkages and they dont seem worn out at all... so i'm afraid it's inside the tranny... can this be adjusted or will it just get worse until it wont stay in gear at all?
Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff, my Magnum got stuck in forward; what had happened
was the linkage in the back where the gears are shifted was slipping.
When I moved the shifter to rev or forward it would not shift . I took the side cover off and tried to shift the gears that's when I saw what my problem was , I took a 1/2 wrench and some pliers to help shit the tranny in neutral , after doing that I tightened the nut on the shifting linkage and allah all my problems were fixed ..Hope this helps

mine doesnt look anything like that... I only have a single rod
After looking at this pic:
18 is the shift shaft, and 21 is the "bullet" that is pushed tight against the shift shaft by a spring... either that bullet is worn out or the gears are i think.
If i take out the plug holding the spring down against the bullet, is the bullet going to call into the crankcase or come out nicely for me to inspect it??
Thanks

It sounds more like and adjustment issue n anything else .I'll look at it closer when I get to work but i beleive you should be able to adjust it .
You say it's jumpin outta foward ?

ya, it's jumping out of forward... there's no pressure on the shifter to keep it engaged properly
Thanks

Take #9 & #11 linkage lock nuts loose and turn your linkage rod to where you lengthen your linkage a little and try it see if it stll jumps out of gear..
It sounds more like an adjustment more than ur tranny.
keep us posted..

I understand how that could fix it, you're saying it's not engaging all the way, but isnt that just a bandaid fix for a worn out part... theres a reason it isnt engaging all the way like it once did and it's not because those nuts loosened off and made that rod shorter right?
But i will try that and see what happens
thanks again

What happened was the PO must have been working on the tranny and installed the pin and spring backwards... He installed it, gear selector - spring - pin - bolt... I changed it around to the proper order and now it's working mint.

my 94 trail boss did the same thing. whenever you accelerated quickly it would come out of F and would grind untill you pulled it back into N. it stayed in R just fine. I kept adjust ing it and it would work then it would start happening again untill it finally broke a peice of linkage. I got a new but now it won't stay in at all...I think the F gear is stipped and I am going to have to open up the gearcase.
