engine revving on its own.

so i took out the carb from the 1999 250 trail blazer i just bought and cleaned it up and fixed the issues of it bogging when throttle was applied. i went in the house for a little bit and came back to work on it some more and started it up and it starts great, but it revs like i am mashing the throttle. just keeps revving higher and higher. i did mess with the throttle after i cleaned the carb and tightened up the return spring a little bit. but when i work the throttle, everything works as it should, as i can see the cable moving in and out where it enters the engine. so i do not think that is it. any ideas? thanks!

Most likely the slide isn't dropping back low enough. Only take a very little too high to cause uncontrolled idle. Back the idle screw out a very little bit and try again

thanks for the input. i figured it out... stupid me. when i tried to tighten up the throttle, i tightened the throttle cable too much, which in turn was opening up the throttle... most problems turn out to be the obvious thing that we overlook... my honda doesnt do that, so i didnt consider it. asked a buddy who has a trailblazer and he suggested i look at that first...
